Project Description
The project comprises the construction of a new, 40.000 m² terminal building, with 6 passenger boarding bridges. The turn-key electromechanical works for both Skopje and Ohrid shall be executed by Novatek. Completely designed and planned by Novatek design team and as a result of the know-how gained from recently completed Sofia/Bulgaria and Enfidha/Tunisia Airports. The new airport will be able to handle a capacity of 6 million passengers per year.
In order to increase the capacity of the airport the runway, apron and taxiway areas shall be improved and increased, in line with the capacity of the terminal building. The runway is extended for more than 500 m whereas the apron areas are increased by 25.000 m². A cargo handling facility capable of 40.000 tons of goods per year and a new administration building of 5.000 m² is also within the scope of works.
The improvement works and construction of the new terminal building of the Alexander the Great Airport of Skopje is planned to be completed in the relatively short time of 20 months, until the end of November 2011. Within the same time frame, Ohrid airport will have its terminal building and VIP sections modernized as well.
